Serra David, LCSW
Serra (she/her) received her bachelor’s degree from Colby College and Master of Social Work degree from Smith College School for Social Work. She has previously worked with children and adolescents in a community mental health setting, and provided individual psychotherapy to adults. Serra has supported clients through a wide range of issues, such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship difficulties.
Serra’s approach to therapy is grounded in psychodynamic theory and in her background as a student of language and literature. In her clinical work, Serra invites curiosity and collaboration, encouraging her clients to explore the innumerable ways we come to constitute ourselves and come to make meaning of our experiences. She is guided by an understanding that therapeutic change is possible in the delicate movement between bringing language to the unspoken and respecting the fundamental opacity of unconscious life.
Serra brings particular attention to the ways in which social identities, inherited and self-fashioned, complicate and enrich our lives. She is also especially interested in working with individuals who have felt flattened or not fully understood, either in previous therapy or moving through the world. Serra is available to work with children, adolescents, and adults.
